Archive Search Subscriber Agreement

1. The parties and acceptance

This Agreement is between NSA and the person or organization identified during Subscriber registration. By activating a subscription, the Subscriber confirms that the registration information is accurate and that the Subscriber has read and accepted this Agreement and the version of the Terms of Use presented at registration.

2. Membership service

An active Archive Search Subscriber account may search archives made available through NSA, select one or more eligible archives for a search, receive source-linked reports, review credit activity, and retain completed reports in the Subscriber dashboard, subject to archive permissions and service availability.

Not every archive or file is available for every search. Archivists may limit, suspend, or withdraw search permission for their materials, and NSA may restrict material while addressing security, ownership, privacy, or rights concerns.

3. Subscription price

The planned introductory subscription price is $10 per month. The actual price, billing interval, renewal terms, and any applicable payment-provider terms will be displayed before payment. No charge will be made through the current pre-launch demonstration pages.

When live subscriptions begin, the Subscriber may cancel future renewal through the account or the stated support process. Cancellation does not reverse searches already completed or charges already properly incurred, except where a refund is expressly offered or required.

4. Welcome and purchased credits

Upon paid account activation, the planned membership includes 25 welcome search credits. Each completed eligible archive search costs one credit. A search that fails before a report is completed should not consume a credit.

Additional search credits are planned at $0.50 per credit in the quantities displayed in the Subscriber dashboard. The quantity, total price, and payment terms will be shown before purchase. Credits have no cash value and may not be sold or transferred unless NSA expressly permits it.

5. Reports and credit records

The Subscriber dashboard is intended to show credits added, credits used, credits remaining, selected archive scope, and completed search reports. Opening or downloading a previously completed report does not use another credit.

NSA will make reasonable efforts to retain completed reports for access through an active account. Subscribers should also download and preserve reports important to their work. Storage and availability cannot be guaranteed indefinitely following account closure, service discontinuation, a security event, or required removal of source material.

6. Sources, reports, and ownership

Archivists and other lawful owners retain ownership of their archive materials. Search permission does not transfer title, copyright, or a general right to reproduce or redistribute source files. NSA and its licensors retain their respective rights in the service, software, report format, organization, and original material.

The Subscriber may use a completed report for personal, scholarly, educational, professional, or internal organizational research, subject to the permissions and notices associated with its sources. Substantial republication, commercial redistribution, or creation of a competing archive from protected source material requires the appropriate owner's authorization.

7. Research responsibility

Search reports may include historical, unconventional, disputed, incomplete, or erroneous material. NSA provides evidence discovery and source connections, not a guarantee that a claim is correct or suitable for a particular decision. The Subscriber is responsible for reviewing citations, context, provenance, limitations, and original sources.

NSA reports are not legal, medical, financial, engineering, or other professional advice.

8. Subscriber conduct

The Subscriber will protect account credentials and use the service only for lawful and authorized purposes. The Subscriber may not evade credit accounting or access controls; scrape or extract substantial portions of NSA or participating archives; introduce malicious code; misrepresent a report or source; harass an Archivist or other member; or use archive information to surveil, exploit, threaten, or harm another person.

9. Privacy and communications

NSA will use Subscriber information and private search activity only as reasonably necessary to provide, secure, support, account for, and improve the service, subject to the Terms of Use. NSA will not sell Subscriber personal information.

NSA may send communications necessary to administer the account, subscription, credits, payment, security, or this Agreement. Subscription to the general New Science Archives newsletter is separate and optional.

10. Account restriction and closure

NSA may temporarily restrict an account to investigate suspected misuse, unauthorized access, security threats, payment disputes, or a material violation of this Agreement. When practicable, NSA will explain the concern and provide a reasonable opportunity to respond or correct it.

The Subscriber may request account closure. Before closure, the Subscriber should download any reports they wish to retain. Any handling of unused credits at closure will follow the terms displayed when those credits were issued or purchased and any applicable requirements.

11. Changes and good-faith resolution

NSA may revise this Agreement as the service develops. The accepted version and time of acceptance will be recorded when live registration begins. Material changes will be presented for review and renewed acceptance when appropriate.

If a disagreement arises, NSA and the Subscriber should first communicate directly and make a good-faith effort to understand the facts and reach a fair resolution. Neither party silently waives a right, remedy, defense, or objection.

12. Relationship to the Terms of Use

The Terms of Use are incorporated into this Agreement. If these documents conflict about a matter specific to Archive Search Subscriber membership, this Agreement controls for that matter. The Archivist Agreement governs ownership, custody, permission, return, and removal of participating archive material.
